Ocasio-Cortez: It’s wrong to show kids guns in holiday pictures

Erin Burnett tweeted the photo of little girls with guns and asked whether parents should feel compelled to explain the photo to their kids.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said on Tuesday that she “completely agree[s]” with Burnett.

“There is a very dangerous influence in this country where minors, children are influenced by being pulled on a path, there’s a community that embraces that way of life,” the newly elected Democrat said on “Outnumbered.”

Ocasio-Cortez continued that because the children have their hands on the guns, it “undermines” that image.

“We don’t even have to have a fight or argument,” she said. “We don’t have to argue, but they are showing a picture to their children that this is how it’s okay to be.”

Burnett tweeted the photo of little girls with guns and asked whether parents should feel compelled to explain the photo to their kids.

The photo surfaced on social media on Sunday, prompting mixed reactions from users and drawing backlash online.

The photo sparked debate on social media, with some individuals arguing the children in the photo pose just like many children do. Others, however, criticized the image as a negative representation of America.

On Twitter, some users said that not only were the children in the photo dressed as if they’re celebrating the holiday season, but they were holding guns.

Ocasio-Cortez later took to Twitter to point out that neither the pictures nor the caption were meant to be accurate.
